How to Identify the best vocational skill




Vocational Skills are practical skills that requires training and practice. Vocational jobs doesn't require a university degree.

The demand for vocational skill job is increasing due to the fact that much emphasis is placed on university certificate than practical skill

Graduate believes that their certificate is a guarantee of a good job. However, most of them discovered late that acquiring a good skill plus their certificate could have really help.


The uncertainty facing many economy and companies had lead to unpredictable job loss in every sectors and countries.

Acquiring a vocational skill is the best option. Many people are unaware of the fact that some skills can make them a millionaire.

Skills like photography, Multimedia and video coverage, welding, graphic design, tailoring, beads making etcetera are in excess demand.
However, before choosing the skill to acquire, the following factors should be considered:

Passion
Acquiring a skill that you are passionate for has many advantages especially in the early days.
The early period is used to source for clients. Many people opt-out at this stage because the money is not coming. Like every other business, patience is required to break-even.

Marketability
The monetary potential of the skill should be considered. This depends on the long term potential of the skill.
In Nigeria in the 80s and 90s, bicycle repairing was very lucrative. However, that has changed because of increase in income of The middle class.
Learning how to repair generator in Nigeria now has no future potentials because the government will definitely fix the electricity challenges been experienced.
The questions to ask when choosing a to acquire is:
How relevant will the skill be in 7 to 10 year' s time?

Employability
Employers are always in need of some technical skills like graphic design, tailoring, Multimedia video editing. Those that are passionate about these skills has many many options.
However, the choice of these skills shouldn't be because of the employability alone. Passion and other factors should be considered.

Start up capital
Credit facilities for start up in developing countries is still a challenge. Personal savings is the highest source of funding for small businesses. It is advisable to have an idea of  the startup of capital to avoid been stranded after training.

Training cost
Skill like pipeline welding requires more capital. A good idea of the training cost could help.
